Your iPhone already has everything you need to block apps….. without installing a thing.
You can set a daily time limit, shut them down completely during certain hours, or restrict them altogether.
Here are the three ways, with the exact steps.
Option 1: a time limit on one app
Best if you don’t want to shut it down entirely, you just don’t want it getting out of hand.
- Open Settings > Screen Time.
- Tap App Limits > Add Limit.
- Pick the app or the category (Social, for example).
- Set the daily time (15 minutes, 1 hour…) and save.
Once it runs out, the app is blocked for the rest of the day. And if you turn on the Screen Time passcode, you can’t wave it away with a quick “one more minute”.
Option 2: block by time of day
Perfect for keeping your phone quiet at night or during study hours.
- In Screen Time, go to Downtime.
- Turn it on and set the schedule (11pm to 7am, for example).
- Under Always Allowed, leave only the essentials.
During those hours, everything else is locked.
Option 3: restrict specific apps
Under Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions you can block apps by age rating, prevent installs and turn off purchases.
This is the most useful route if you’re setting up a child’s phone.
The trouble with locks that rely on willpower
These options work. But they have one well-known weak spot.
When the “limit reached” screen appears, there’s a button: “Ignore Limit”.
And if you’re the one who set the lock….. you’re the one who opens it, in two taps.
Willpower at eleven at night isn’t your best self.
That’s where it helps to add friction that doesn’t depend on saying “no”. Nitor locks the apps you choose and, to open them, asks you to do a few reps of exercise first.
It isn’t an “ignore” button. It’s getting up and moving. That small effort is exactly what stops the automatic scroll….. and it gets you moving a little every day.
A lock that doesn’t open with a button
Nitor Fit locks the apps that hook you and unlocks them with exercise. To open them, you get up and move. No “ignore” button.
